prjSMAC HISTORY: OCTOBER 2019

On October 03 at dinner time, I realized that some work was being done at don Joselito’s shanty, where RESMA animals live (see September 2018). Later on, I was told that they are going to rebuild it for somebody to come and live there: two of don Joselito's relatives (a guy and a girl). I already talked to the guy and he told me there was no problem for the animals to stay. We agreed that I would continue feeding them.

On October 05, there was a serious problem with Luna: It was the day that the birth control shot for 3 of the cats (Luna, Manchitas, and Flor) was due. I put them into the cage to take them to the house where I live because that’s what I have been doing till now. When I tried to do that with Luna, I could do it, but after letting her bit me again so hard that I bled really bad. It happened in a matter of seconds. I thought I was going to have to go to hospital, but I decided to put some medicine myself.

In the house where I live and inside the cage, it was not easy putting the injection on her, but I could finally do it. She didn’t bit me this time even though she was really angry. The reason for her to become so violent was that when she was wounded last month (see September 2019), I put some medicine on her eyelid. I imagine the medicine that I put hurt on her eye because right after that day, she stopped letting me grab her.

The big problem now is that I don’t want to try and catch her again because I cannot continue to risk being bitten anymore. I already consulted with the vet, but she told me the most that could be done was taking the cat to her, which I can’t do because the problem happens when catching Luna to put her into the cage. The next shot is due on January 05, 2020; so I have time until that day to find an alternative.

In the meantime, I’m using the birth control method that is usual in this area where I live, which is putting an avocado seed in the cats’ water. I have seen that it doesn’t affect the cats’ health and people say that it works. I have checked on the internet to see if it says something about that method but haven’t found anything yet. The situation is desperate because we don’t have the capacity to feed more animals by the time being, but I can only pray for the avocado seed to have the expected effect.

Threats, harassment, and intimidation keep on coming from secret societies.
